Mzansi Meat is Africa's first cultivated meat company. Based in South Africa, they develop and scale a cultivated beef product while growing public awareness to meet the rising demand for meat in growing African cities.

Developed a commercially viable cell-line, that is non-GMO and immortalised
Reduced media costs from $125/l to $100/l, and will eliminate FBS by the end of 2022. They plan to reduce the costs further to $3/l by the end of 2023
Achieved adherence and growth in suspension with commercially available scaffolds and are experimenting with in-house mycelium scaffolding to improve taste and yield
Reached bioreactor capacity of 2.4l, which has allowed them to increase their productivity 8-fold since December. They will expand this to 16 litres in the upcoming weeks before reaching 200 litres at the end of Q1 2022
